The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program provides free income tax return preparation and filing assistance to mid to low-income, disabled, elderly, and non-English speaking residents of Hampden County. VITA helps working families take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the Child Tax Credit (CTC), education credits and all of the tax credits available to them.
IRS trained volunteers from the community help prepare, at no cost to eligible taxpayers, basic Massachusetts or Connecticut state and federal tax returns for the current year. Participants are encouraged to use their tax refund money to establish bank accounts, start Individual Development Accounts, or reduce outstanding financial debts. The VITA Program tax preparers will be preparing tax returns virtually. Call 413-263-6500 x6501 to set up an appointment.
During the January-April tax season, we provide:

- Assurance that all tax credits available to you will be claimed, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the Child Tax Credit (CTC), and education credits
- Secure, fast filing by mail or electronically (e-File)
